Are You Cleaning Your Tile and Grout Wrong?

A common complaint among Home Owners is that their Tile and Grout looks dirty even after mopping and mopping.

My first question is “What are you mopping with?”

Their response will vary from Bleach, Pinesol, Fabuloso, Lysol, Swiffer Wet Jet, Vinegar and Water, etc.

Let me tell you a little secret…. All of those products are not cleaning your tile and grout. They are leaving a residue and or doing more harm than good.

Why? Bleach loosens the grout adhesives causing it to create missing joints.

Pinesol, Fabuloso, and like products leave a residue behind that allows dirt to adhere to the surface easily. I mean have you ever noticed how the areas that you mop the most are the dirtiest? That is a result of a residue build up.

Vinegar and Water etches your grout (removes a thin layer) and will eventually cause the grout to be so damaged that a color stain may be necessary to fix the issue.

So what should you be using?

I recommend the use of ANY Neutral Floor Cleaner. The one that I recommend the most is Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner. You can find this product in Home Depot and Lowes in the cleaning aisles. The product is inexpensive and has a high dilution. It flat out cleans! It can be mopped on or you can use an automatic scrubber or whatever tickles your fancy! Just trust me, use this before anything else. This is the BEST way to maintain your Tile and Grout, especially after a professional cleaning.

Why use a neutral floor cleaner?

Simple, because it does not leave a film that will attract dirt.
